Anne Of The Lake

When I was young, books were my best friends. I spent my evenings reading and re-re-reading my favorite tomes. While I mostly enjoyed mysteries and comic books, there was something to be said about the "classics" as my grandmother called them. These classic tales, that have been read for generations brought a peace with them, an understanding of the world, that is still so relevant to our day and age. As fall is starting to poke its nose at us, I find comfort in reading these tales again, and doing a fun editorial take on Anne of Green Gables was the perfect way to celebrate this titan of children's literature. I discovered with pleasure, that all my models had read the book and were so excited to portrays their favorite heroine while still giving the portraits their own signature style. Anne is one of the strongest, truest to herself, heroine in literature. There is a grace and simplicity to Anne that isn't matched by many. She reminds us to be kind to ourselves, especially in times of strife. To believe that we can be better, that we can do better, but that we are also enough. We have lived through an arduous past couple of years and taking the time to rest, and to appreciate the simple things in life is terribly important right now, and I feel that Anne of Green Gables reminds us of that. I travelled back to a simpler time, when I went on picnics every Sundays in the parks of France with my family. It is those lovely memories that inspired our set up by this beautiful lake. We went up to Lake Arrowhead in the mountains of Southern California and spent the day enjoying the fresh air as well as the beauty and tranquility of this location.

“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Lake Arrowhead has long been one of my favorite places to spend the week-end.
Calmer than Big Bear, there is still so much nature, as well as snow in the winter, that it makes the trip up the mountain a completely different experience than sea level California. One of the wonders of California is being able to access the mountain and the beach in the same day if you so choose. How lucky we were to be able to spend the day in such an iddylic location. Lake Arrowhead holds a special magic. With chipmunks scouring the decks of the houses, birds chirping the whole day, sometimes even the occasional sighting of a bear. The excitement of mountain living is found readily here. While we thankfully did not encounter any bears during our shoot, we still enjoyed a nature filled day. And we explored what it meant for us, to become Anne...
“There's such a lot of different Annes in me. I sometimes think that is why I'm such a troublesome person. If I was just the one Anne it would be ever so much more comfortable, but then it wouldn't be half so interesting.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gable
